Arrow season 6 episode 5 preview: Manu Bennett, Vigilante return

Arrow season 6 episode 5

Arrow season 6 episode 5 is entitled “Deathstroke Returns,” and every indication that we have suggests it’ll be a blast to watch.

First and foremost, you’re getting more Manu Bennett as Slade Wilson for the first of two episodes themed around this character. Will he actually wear the Deathstroke costume? With that title you have to hope so (the promo below actually confirms it), but beyond that this is going to be a personal story for Slade as we get a little more insight into his family and his future. Bennett is a tremendous actor who can do both intense action and pointed vulnerability — with that, this could be one of the best episodes featuring him of the entire series.

If that wasn’t enough to get you excited for this episode, did we also mention that Vigilante is coming back as well for the first time since last season? We’re certainly curious as to where he’s been hiding given that Prometheus has been gone for months now and that seemed to be the only reason he was MIA.

The Arrow season 6 episode 5 synopsis that CarterMatt has for you below is your source of additional insight:

SLADE RETURNS; VIGILANTE REAPPEARS IN STAR CITY – Slade (guest star Manu Bennett) returns and asks Oliver (Stephen Amell) for help in tracking down his son. When they learn Joe (guest star William Franklyn-Miller) has been taken hostage by mercenaries, their mission to save him gets complicated by a terrible revelation that could shatter Slade’s hopes of reunion forever. Meanwhile, Vigilante reappears in Star City. Joel Novoa directed the episode written by Ben Sokolowski & Spiro Skentzos (#605). Original airdate 11/9/2017.

What’s the risk here with Slade? It goes back to what he said to Oliver Queen in the premiere: “You and I walk between two worlds, but we can only do that for so long.” Can he straddle the line of the person that he was along with the father that he wants to be? He wasn’t always a killer — he was someone capable of tenderness and love, and while he probably would love to blame the mirakuru for his misdeeds he can’t actually do that. There’s too much metaphorical water under the bridge at this point. That’s the danger with Slade and his alignment in this world: Sooner or later, something could happen that triggers his dark side.
