Chicago PD season 5 takes a (smart) break against World Series

Chicago PD new tonight

Is Chicago PD new tonight on NBC? If this was any other normal fall season night the answer would be yes…

Alas, this just goes to show the difference that something like the World Series can make when it comes to altering a TV schedule. Due to Game 7, many broadcasters are doing the smartest thing possible: Bailing before they run the risk of losing any viewers. For evidence of how badly some shows were hurt by game 6, you don’t have to look any further than some of the numbers from Tuesday night — everything from This Is Us to Law & Order: True Crime to The Flash suffered significantly because of the added competition.

Chicago PD season 5 is a show that has many new episodes that are coming up and plenty of time to air them — therefore, there is no real reason for NBC to hurt their show going up against the World Series.

Keeping tonight’s episode off the air for another week should help to avoid any major ratings losses — given that you don’t quite know if the show is going to be able to get those viewers back, we think that this is a very smart move.

What lies ahead when Chicago PD returns?

Well, one of the biggest stories that you will see is a manhunt turn into something very different. After a police officer (and someone with close ties to none other than Hailey Upton) turns up dead, it is then up to the fine folks over in Intelligence to determine exactly what happened. As it turns out doing this is much harder than the team imagined it would be going in. They’ll have to pool their resources and also be prepared for some unexpected surprises along the way.

We’ve had a chance to check out this episode and we do have to say that it’s a great one for Tracy Spiridakos. You learn a lot more about Upton and see her relationship develop with some other characters within the case. There are also a few events that will propel the season forward in a rather big way.

After the episode airs next week, come back for a little more insight via Spiridakos herself — CarterMatt had a chance to speak with her during our time at One Chicago Day. We will be bringing you these interviews sprinkled throughout the season to give you a better sense of what is coming for many of the key characters.

Here’s one big of scoop from us: Expect one of the better confrontations between Voight and a series regular!
