Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus reveals breast cancer diagnosis
This post, since she first shared it, has generated an enormous groundswell of support and love towards the actress. That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise given her career, which rivals that of Mary Tyler Moore, Betty White, and some of the other great TV performers of all time. She was a part of Saturday Night Live, and then leveraged that in order to be a part of one of the other greatest TV shows ever made in Seinfeld. Following that, she had The New Adventures of Old Christine draw her a significant amount of attention, and now of course playing Selina Meyer on Veep. Most performers would be thrilled to do just one of these things. She’s won countless Emmys and other awards, and beyond that has always used her platform to try to spread good in the world.
Even with this announcement, Louis-Dreyfus didn’t just try to make it about herself. Instead, she did her part to use her platform to try and spread more love and positive energy to other people all over the world. This is integral from the vantage point of giving other people hope. She recognizes that her status as a celebrity allows her the chance to do that for other people who are struggling and in need of extra support.
For those who are wondering, don’t expect cancer to get in the way of Louis-Dreyfus doing what she loves. There are plans for her to continue on as Selina on Veep, and according to a new report coming in right now from Deadline the plan is for the show’s upcoming seventh and final season to adjust its schedule however they need to do so for her benefit. The show will go on; here’s to hoping that there are many more laughs along the way and opportunities for Louis-Dreyfus to use her platform to spread good.
Of course, we’re sending Louis-Dreyfus all of our best as she goes out there and takes down cancer like nobody’s business. (Photo: HBO.)
