The Flash season 4 spoilers: Tom Felton’s exit will be explained

Tom Felton

Tom Felton’s exit is one of the few unfortunately bits of news coming out about The Flash season 4. We liked Julian Albert! While he was one of the more expendable members of the team in that he wasn’t really there all that long, we did like having him around. He was a grump, and we like characters who are a little grump. We wish that we had a little bit longer in order to get to know him and see if there was something that could develop between him and Caitlin — even if it wasn’t a romantic relationship, he basically kept her alive when she wouldn’t have wanted to be. We at CarterMatt don’t quite think that this was played up enough as it could have been on the show.

Here’s the good news: Tom Felton’s exit may not necessarily be permanent, given that there could still be a chance for him to come back as Julian in the future. Speaking on the subject to TVLine, executive producer Todd Helbing made it clear that there will be a reason why he is gone when he’s gone:

“You’ll see pretty quickly — there’s a reason why he’s no longer with the team … There’s always the chance that we can see anybody on this show return. We’ve had a lot of characters come and go for various reasons, and I don’t think this will be any different.”

Now, the real mystery comes finding the right time and place in order to bring the character back! Our personal hope is that there’s going to be a chance in order to see Felton at some point in a story that either relies on the connection that he had briefly with Caitlin or some of the other characters on the show. Of course, there are also plenty of other situations in which his CSI skills could be put to use, as well … but we’re not crossing our fingers thinking he will be back anytime soon. Most of Julian’s tangible connections were to the story of Savitar thanks to him being Alchemy in the early going of the season. The only thing we still wonder is why Flashpoint dictated why he needed to be in Central City in the first place. Also, we do wonder as to where Julian was in the event that this timeline never happened. Was he even in Central City?

Alas, some questions just go unanswered, and with a show like The Flash with such a big cast, the reality remains that you’re not going to get to see everyone you want stick around all of the time. People leave to move the story forward.

How do you think The Flash will handle Tom Felton’s exit?
