Hurricane Harvey telethon shifts America’s Got Talent, Midnight, Texas

On Tuesday, September 12, NBC (alongside many other networks) is going to be airing Hand In Hand: A Benefit For Hurricane Harvey Relief. This telethon will be doing what it can (over the course of an hour) to raise money for those suffering in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, and the list of big-name stars taking part is pretty impressive. We have George Clooney, Beyonce, Jamie Foxx, Julia Roberts, Barbra Streisand, Reese Witherspoon, Oprah Winfrey, and more all doing their best to raise some money to help those affected by the storm.

As a result of this telethon, there are a couple of different scheduling changes for shows airing that night that you should be aware of.

America’s Got Talent – The second episode of the live semifinal shows (on NBC) will be taking place at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time rather than 8:00, which is its previously scheduled time. This allows the telethon to capture the timeslot that’s normally saved for family viewing, and then America’s Got Talent will run for its typical two hours. The results show the following day will be back in its standard timeslot.

Midnight, Texas – Meanwhile, the Charlaine Harris adaptation originally had an episode scheduled for September 12 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern. Given the number of episodes it has left in the season in comparison to the number of free weeks there are, it was clear that something was going to have to give when it comes to it having to air on the same night as the telethon. Following its new regularly-scheduled episode on September 11, the next installment is going to air two days later on September 13 at 10:00 p.m. ET. The finale for the first season will still air the following week. There’s no word yet on if this is going to mark the season or series finale of the show.

This telethon is far from the only thing that NBC has done in support of charitable organizations looking to give back to Hurricane Harvey victims. Last week’s episode of America’s Got Talent included frequent reminders throughout of ways to help, and the morning and evening news shows have done the same. This is one of those times where people do have a tendency to come together regardless of background, and do everything they can in order to help those in need. We’re glad to see that the entertainment world is not forgetting them, and hopefully they will continue to offer support in the months to come. After all, charities tend to need money for far longer than anyone realizes; the trendy move is to give right away and not to remember down the road.
