The cast of the hit NBC series, This Is Us, has been backed to work filming Season 2 and star Sterling K. Brown sat down with Entertainment Weekly to discuss the upcoming season.
In his interview, he discussed everything from working with his co-stars to his Emmy nomination for the show to what scenes were the most challenging to film. However, when asked about Jack’s death, Brown gave up another clue:
“We know from the past that the kids were around 15, 16, 17 when Jack passed away because we saw flashes of them at that age at the funeral. I’ll tell you how big of a surprise it is. The surprise is so big that when Dan wrote the script, he omitted the final scene from the script just so it couldn’t be leaked. I know what it is, but he didn’t put it in writing because he just didn’t want it to be leaked.”
EP Dan Fogelman previously stated that fans wouldn’t get all the answers surrounding Jack’s death, but we would get a huge clue in the first episode of Season 2. The huge clue must be an important one given that Fogelman took out the final scene in attempt to keep it a secret, which only increases our curiosity about it.
The mystery surrounding Jack’s death has been the part of the series fans are most obsessed with. It was the most shocking detail from Season 1 and by revealing it so early fans spent the rest of the first season gradually gaining a better insight into Jack’s life and marriage to Rebecca.
We learned that it wasn’t always a picture-perfect marriage and that both Jack and Rebecca had their downfalls. Jack, in particular, struggled with alcoholism resulting in Season 1 ending with his and Rebecca’s separation. So going into Season 2, we not only hope they find a way to fall in love with each other all over again, but that Jack’s addiction doesn’t play apart in his death. It would definitely be a heartbreaking way for the character to die and would certainly leave fans in tears.
As we stated previously, we hope that we don’t get all the answers to his death this season because we want Milo Ventimiglia (Jack) to be part of the series for seasons to come. Now we are confident that the writers would find a way to keep him in the show, but if we have all the answers this season part of the excitement and anticipation is gone.
However, the only way to find out what will happen is to tune in on September 26 at 9pm on NBC.
