The Flash season 4 spoilers: Tom Cavanagh hints at another Harrison Wells

Tom Cavanagh

When The Flash season 4 premieres, you may see something that has become almost a tradition so far this year — another side of Harrison Wells! Tom Cavanagh has played many different dimensions to this character so far in the series’ run, and we’re going to have a chance to see potentially yet another one throughout the upcoming fourth season.

Want to know more about him? Well, you’re right there with almost everyone in that regard! Unfortunately, there is still not all that much that can be said about him, at least beyond what Cavanagh had to say recently to Comic Book Resources:

“This year, we’ve had a different villain and so I think there’s going to be areas that we could use a different Wells … We’re going to start with Harry and then find a way, I think, to try and get a different version of Wells in there, be it some version of Harry or whatnot as the season’s gaps present themselves. I mean, there is stuff that’s involved with this season that we’re talking about how Wells might become a different version of Wells, but I think that’s a storyline too far from me to give up.”

Of course, the idea of getting a different Wells on the show at some point is something that we very much endorse, but we’re well aware that we are also not the person making that decision. The issue with doing it so many times is that eventually, it does become somewhat of a running joke and it loses a little bit of its impact. However, one of the other things about it is that if you come up with cool characters every time, you’re effectively finding some additional ways to lighten up the story and give it a new energy every single year. What was great about HR last season was that he represented the bumbling guy who wanted to do everything in his power to help, even if he didn’t always have either the knowledge or the resources in which to do so.

This time around, what we could see is a different dimension of him, whether it is a hero or a villain, who adds another layer to the show. Given that this is a character not beholden to the main series in any way, it does give the show so much more when it comes to flexibility. It allows the writers to be creative and have a little bit of fun!
