Suits season 7 episode 4 spoilers: Harvey hands Mike a gift

When Suits season 7 episode 4 airs on USA tonight, prepare to see Harvey Specter in the role of peacemaker. He understands what he made Mike Ross do last week, and wants to continue to earn his goodwill. Does this really sound like Harvey? Well, he does have his nice moments, and absolutely values his friendship with Mike.

What we can tell you about Wednesday’s episode is that Harvey will hand Mike a gift he’ll surely want: A new client. To be specific, a new pro bono client. (A new sneak peek, which you can see here, offers up proof.) Harvey knows that Mike lost his previous one (or, he had to pass it along) because of a conflict with Alex. Given Alex’s status as the new kid on the block, that could lead to some resentment. Mike wouldn’t settle for second place in any of his cases, so why would he to his boss?

Harvey bringing Mike a case serves as a chance for a fresh start, one that avoids any future conflicts or trouble with Alex. Luckily, Mike and Alex were fine even before Harvey brought this over. Consider this just another peace offering as the characters continue to rebuild Pearson Specter Litt. It still isn’t the firm it once was, and Mike’s feet are barely damp following his return at the end of this past season. Rebuilding takes time, and it requires many of the partners to be on the same page.

All of this feels well and good — so why worry about a larger motive? For a reason there, just remind yourself that this is Suits. This show loves to throw out curveballs, and Harvey Specter often operates behind the scenes. This offer may eventually be a make-good for something else that he does, something that angers Mike even further. Does Mike prepare for that? He accepts the new case and pursues an outcome, but should consider a whammy down the road.

What else lies ahead?

For Mike, he will continue to try and balance work and home. He and Rachel technically have a wedding to plan, but no time to plan it. The longer this lasts, the more tension rises out of the situation.

Meanwhile, Harvey continues to pursue a relationship with his former therapist Paula Agard, though there are clearly many issues to work through here. She showed wariness to it thanks to her professional history on this past episode, but he talked her out of it. For now, they may enjoy strong standing … but another classic Suits curveball may lie around the corner. Nothing ever feels completely stable within this world, and there is clear intentionality behind that.
