Big Brother OTT season 2 not happening this fall, not officially canceled

Big Brother OTT season 2

We’re not sure if you were hoping or not for a Big Brother OTT season 2, but it’s now official that one won’t be happening this fall.

Buried within a Deadline story (uncovered thanks to Reality Blurred), CBS All Access isn’t necessarily ending the show. However, the quick turnaround time between the summer season and this one was a little too challenging for them. They may choose to try some different things with the platform in the future. The problem that Big Brother OTT, if it doesn’t run in the fall, has no other time it can really go on the air. In the spring Big Brother Canada already has a place on the schedule, and there’s not going to be any chance that OTT would survive against that. Even if American viewers don’t get direct access to the Canadian series, many of them do still find a way to watch. If you run the show at the start of January, maybe you can run a game that’s for about 45 days or so before the Canadian version starts to creep in. That’s it.

In the end, we’re personally starting to think that OTT probably won’t come back. The show had some attention on social media, but it turned most of the fandom into a super-depressing mess. Also, there’s been some serious oversaturation of the show’s brand over the past year, and having no long-term break from the franchise is a difficult thing to digest. Sometimes, having some distance from something makes you love it more.

There were some things that OTT did do really well, and we’d love to see those integrated into the flagship show someday. Take, for example, getting a chance to see feeds from the very first day where everyone entered the house and had an opportunity to get to know each other. Following that, some of the competitions were really interesting and fun to watch play out — they weren’t the same stuff regurgitated time and time again. It was also rather interesting to see the show without any sort of language restrictions or anything else on the All Access platform. We do especially wish that the main show would implement more of the Live Diary Rooms, since this offered a chance to get real, unfiltered thoughts from really good houseguests that weren’t diminished down into cheesy DRs that you get sometimes on the main show. Seeing people say fed lines can be occasionally funny, but often it’s irritating since it doesn’t work into the personality of the people we’ve seen online.

If there is any other news on the future of the property, we’ll let you know; as it is, though, it’s hard to be optimistic about the show’s future when CBS has made a great deal of effort to avoid it since it first came out.

Do you think there should be a Big Brother OTT season 2?
