Gotham: season 4 premiere date moved up to September 21
The series will premiere in its new time slot on Thursdays at 8 p.m. and will be the lead in for Seth MacFarlene’s new space dramedy, The Orville.
According to Deadline, the reason for the move up has everything to do with the show’s Thursday partner. “Fox’s new Thursday lineup was originally slated to debut during premiere week, on Sept. 28. But with The Orville launching with a special two-night premiere on Sunday, Sept. 10 and Sunday, Sept. 17, immediately following NFL doubleheaders, that would’ve created an eleven-day gap between the second Sunday airing and the time slot debut of the sci-fi series. The time gap has now been cut to four days.”
The move is a strategic one for the network. The shorter the gap between the Sunday airing and the debut of the new series the better the hype and excitement. The network doesn’t want that excitement to run out and an eleven-day gap is a long time to keep that going. However, a four-day gap is a lot easier to keep fans excited and interested in keeping with the show.
The hype for The Orville could also help ratings for Gotham. Fans could decide that while they wait for The Orville to come on, they will watch Gotham. Not that Gotham needs help in the ratings, but no show is going to turn down the opportunity to gain more viewers. Overall, it’s a good move by Fox and one that could have a good result for both shows.
And this upcoming season of Gotham is looking to be a good one. Season 4 will once again show Jim Gordonn (Ben McKenzie) and Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) front and center in the fight against the evil and unhinged villains in a city known for its criminal landscape. As Gotham City fights for normalcy, Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz), a new hero, will begin his quest to take on the responsibility of caring for the city’s well-being.
