MasterChef season 8 episode 9 preview: Avoiding fish fiascos
Judging from the preview that was shown at the end of the episode, the remaining home cooks have to make fish dishes to present to a group of fishermen in the MasterChef restaurant — they did say that the guests are the “backbone” of the restaurant industry, so this makes sense given that without them, there isn’t really much in the way of food to serve. The fact that these people work so closely with the proteins, likely means that they will not be the easiest people to impress. They know what to do with this fish more so than almost anyone else that they could be serving, and they should be harsh — but then also grateful if they feel like the proteins are being properly honored. You want to win over discerning critics.
This will be a team challenge, so much of the weight of what happens here will lie on the captains — and one of them may be making a rather curious choice of mixing ricotta cheese with halibut. Fish … and cheese? We say this as someone who loves fish, but we’re not sure that we’ve ever had these two things together before and actually enjoyed it. It’s too weird of a combination, and we don’t think that there is a single thing about this that feels altogether appetizing or pleasing. Maybe we’re wrong, but we don’t think so given that the judges are calling it out. (Also, we love halibut and we rarely have it — hold the ricotta.)
There’s no mention of a Pressure Test in the preview, so we wouldn’t bank on that happening — we’ve certainly seen many MasterChef Junior episodes where at the end of the team challenge, someone just goes home.
Who’s in the best spot?
As of right now, we’re standing by our belief that Yachecia is one of the favorites just because she’s been shown so much and, despite a few bumps here and there, has been very strong. Brien emerged again as a favorite tonight, we’re not ruling out Cate or Dino, and maybe Newton or Jason have themselves a little bit of an outside chance.
We do consider Yachecia at the top of our leaderboard at the moment, but what is good about this season is that we don’t think that there is necessarily one person far away from the rest of the field. You don’t want that to happen, since you’re spending much of the season then watching them crawl their way towards getting the victory. Things are better unpredictable.
Who are you rooting for to win?
