Quick Hits: Claws season 2 renewal; The Tick trailer; Empire / Star crossover confirmed
Today, TNT officially confirmed that they are giving the comedy-drama hybrid, which stars Niecy Nash, Carrie Preston, and others in a story of a nail salon gone chaotic thanks to criminal activity, a second season premiering in 2018. It’s a pretty fantastic show that isn’t afraid to push the envelope, so we’re happy to see it coming back. With that said, we also aren’t all that shocked that it is given its solid ratings for most of the season to date.
In a statement, TNT’s executive vice president of original programming Sarah Aubrey had the following to say:
“Look out Manatee County, these ladies are coming back for more! These strong-willed, hilarious women represent the diverse voices this network is all about. Claws has certainly struck a chord with audiences and continues to attract new viewers each week.”
New episodes of Claws are going to continue to come on the air Sunday nights on TNT; be sure to keep checking back at the site for more coverage throughout the season.
As for some further news…
The Empire / Star crossover is a sure thing
We first reported a while back that it looked as though this was going to transpire, and it looks like said crossover may happen as soon as the Wednesday, September 27 premiere. Fox has released some information confirming that some sort of crossover is happening, and it could pair up Carlotta from Star (played by Queen Latifah) with Cookie from Empire (played by Taraji P. Henson).
For a little more news all about what is coming, just be sure to check out the loglines for the two episodes below:
“On the brink of Empire Entertainment’s 20th anniversary, Lucious is making his first public appearance after the explosion in Las Vegas, while all members of the Lyon family, as well as Lucious’ nurse, Claudia (guest star Demi Moore), have their own interests in Lucious regaining his physical and mental faculties. Then, on Star, the girls – with Carlotta as their manager – continue to face roadblocks, despite their victory at Atlanta NextFest.”
The new trailer for The Tick is here
Just in case you’re ready to see the Tick’s unique brand of chaos on Amazon next month, the latest teaser for it is below! This one is very fun, very silly, and it makes the most of some of what we love the most about the character, from his humor to the odd-couple sort of relationsthip that he has with Arthur.
Is this anywhere near the super-awesome animated series? We’re not willing to say that just yet, but for the time being we do consider this to be a nice start. The jury is still out on the series as a whole.
