Designated Survivor season 2 spoilers: Royal Pains alum new series regular

Royal Pains

While Mark Feuerstein will be diving into a new CBS sitcom this fall, his former Royal Pains co-star Paulo Costanzo has a new role.

According to a report from Deadline, Costanzo is going to be aboard Designated Survivor season 2 in the new series-regular role of Lyor Boone, the new White House Political Director and someone who President Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland) may have to learn to appreciate over time. After all, current signs do seem to indicate that he’s not going to be altogether on board with him right away. It is Emily (Italia Ricci) who brings him on, thinking that he can help with one of Kirkman’s biggest flaws: Getting Americans to buy into him.

More so than any other President ever, Kirkman is going to be facing a rather big quagmire of trust. He wasn’t elected by the people he is representing, and with that, he’s going to have to work hard and work long in order to ensure that these people want him to be their leader. There is no guarantee of that, after all, and it’s something that he will have to battle hard to make into a reality.

For Costanzo, it’s going to be fun to see him in this role, which is certainly rather different than any other that we’ve seen in the past. Remember for a moment here that he also was a part of The Night Of on HBO last summer in the midst of saying farewell to his character of Evan Lawson, who he played for many years on the USA series.

The second season of Designated Survivor will premiere this fall, and there will be changes from the jump given that there’s going to be a new showrunner in charge. Not only that, but one of the main cast members from the first season in Virginia Madsen will not be returning. Clearly, there is quite a bit of content that the show will have to figure out this summer for season 2 to be compelling, and a step up from the first go-around.
