Outlander season 3: David Berry on Lord John Grey casting
David Berry was cast to playing this part, and this week the actor had a chance to discuss that further in his home country of Australia during an interview on The Morning Show. Apparently, he had some experience working on a nearby program, and this was a homecoming for him in more ways than one.
You can watch the interview over on the show’s official site, but we’ve isolated a couple of quotes for your reading pleasure.
On being a part of the show – “I’m very excited. It’s been great. I’ve been able to travel a lot — I’ve been in Scotland for a good part of the year … It’s great.”
On how auditioning has changed over the years – “You don’t have to go to LA anymore. The industry’s changed quite a bit. The way that I got my role — I was in Sydney doing the audition here. I got the sides … I’m in the room the next morning, and a week later I was filming in Scotland.”
Berry praised Scotland as a great place to be, and also made it clear that there are many people in the UK who will remember him most from his Home & Away role. This is the sort of part that does tend to stick with people, and that may be the case even after Outlander airs.
The entire interview definitely has some cheesy moments via the hosts, mostly in the same way that most morning shows do. (It’s rather fun to see an Australian take on the morning-show convention, given that we don’t get to watch many of these programs.) Ultimately, consider that a part of the charm here. We’re stoked to see what Berry has to offer Outlander, even if we still have a little ways to go until the show airs.

Lord John is a fantastic character! I can’t wait to see him and Jamie interact on screen.
