Saturday Night Live season 43: Alec Baldwin will return
According to CNN, Baldwin claimed recently while promoting his upcoming project “Blind” that he would continue to play the role of Donald Trump, claiming mostly that “people have enjoyed it.” That is absolutely good news for most people when it comes to entertainment, given that Baldwin’s version of the character has been silly, funny, absurd, and so much more. This is one of the most entertaining impressions the show has — while it may not be the most accurate Trump currently on the air, it is probably one of the funniest just because of the combination of performance and material.
Nonetheless, there was still a lot of ambiguity for a long time as to whether or not Baldwin would come back. He has said in the past that he does not find a whole lot of pleasure in playing the President, mostly because it is based on being very mean and bashing someone — even if it is someone that he disagrees with on almost every measure. Trump himself has criticized the impression repeatedly, which shouldn’t really surprise anyone given his take on everything that is in direct opposition to him in some shape or form.
New episodes of SNL will start airing this fall on NBC. For the time being, there is no word regarding what’s going to be coming in terms of the cast or the first host of the season; we are losing Bobby Moynihan, Sasheer Zamata, and Vanessa Bayer from the cast, but it’s possible that there could be another change made over the coming weeks, as well. Typically new cast members are announced closer to the season, but it could be a little earlier than usual thanks to Weekend Update Thursdays returning to the air earlier in the summer in August. Maybe it is possible that in the process, you get a chance to see Baldwin’s Trump back on the air earlier than expected.
