Stranger Things 2 spoilers: The specific brand of nostalgia
With that in mind, executive producer Matt Duffer tells TVLine a little bit more about some of the specific touchstones that the show will be taking on when it returns to the air:
“The summer of ’84 was a great summer for movies … There was Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Ghostbusters and Gremlins and The Karate Kid. The kids would have all seen those movies. They probably saw them multiple times, in fact, so they’re able to reference them.”
Basically, this is going to be a heck of a lot of fun to dive into! Granted, this is still a show that will likely give you a whole series of stories about conspiracy, monsters, despair, and troubled children, but it’s not a show that tends to be altogether serious or devoid of fun. That’s what makes it so insanely watchable. You sit down, get immersed in the story, and all of a sudden three or four hours go by and you haven’t left the couch at all.
Once we get a little bit closer to the season airing, maybe there’ll be some more news shared on the subject … maybe. One of the big things to remember here is that the mystery is one of the biggest reasons why this show has become so popular; it’s not the sort of program where you really want to know all that much about what is coming up beforehand, given the fact that this ruins some of the fun.
