MacGyver season 2 spoilers: About new series regular Carmen

When MacGyver season 2 picks up airing on CBS this fall, the Phoenix Foundation may have a new member in Carmen.

So who is she? According to a report from TVLine, the character will be a series regular on the show, and is a CIA operative who works under the title of Intel Extraction Specialist. It makes a little bit of sense to add someone else who could be out in the field, given that when you think about, this show has a fairly small cast of characters with MacGyver, Jack, Bozer, Riley, and Matty doing the heavy lifting. Of these five, MacGyver and Jack are really the two who do most of the heavy lifting out in the field; maybe with the presence of Carmen, that could change a little bit.

It’s a little too early to speculate on individual people, but you should look to MacGyver hiring someone new as a sign that the show is faring very well in the eyes of CBS. They want to add someone to further boost their roster, and with longer seasons, there will still be plenty of time for everyone. Let’s hope that it’s someone who ends up being able to tackle some serious and some silly material, since this show does a great job of giving you a little bit of both.

Beyond that, we know that we’d like to see the second season feature more crossovers, a chance to meet Mac’s father, and then also an opportunity to see more of such iconic original series characters as Murdoc and the Colton Family. There is much more that the show can offer, but we’ll have to wait and see what precisely we get. The good news is that there is some stability when it comes to the timeslot, as MacGyver season 2 is going to air in the same post that it had throughout season 1: Fridays at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time. There will likely be a little bit more in the way of firm premiere scoop when we get closer to the start of filming later in the summer.
