Victoria season 2: Where do Jennifer Coleman, cast go from here?
While speaking at a Deadline The Contenders panel promoting the show and its Emmy odds, Masterpiece senior series producer Susanne Simpson said the following when setting up the second season thematically:
“The tensions of Victoria trying to be a Queen while being a mother, trying to be a Queen while being a wife, trying to be a Queen against all of these forces working against her at a very difficult time in British history where there is a lot change. There are a lot of things still to come.”
This is obviously a difficult show to “spoil,” given that so much of the story is still to come, mostly because all of it is rooted in a certain element of history. The only mystery comes in what’s included and left on the cutting room floor; or, what never made it that far. This is also an interpretation of facts based ultimately on what we written down. Some elements require a little bit of guesswork, since it’s not like Victoria lived in some Big Brother House (thankfully) where she was recorded all of the time.
As for the Victoria Emmy odds, the irony here is that it’s getting mostly overshadowed by another series about a British monarch: The Crown, which is about the reign of Elizabeth II. That series is considered a favorite to garner many big awards, including one for John Lithgow as Winston Churchill and also the series itself. There is still a longshot chance for Victoria, given that if there is one thing that awards-show voters love in America, it is British imports. In some ways, the awards cloud of Downton Abbey lasted so much longer In America than it did in its home country. That’s rather remarkable, but the evidence does for the most part back that up.
Victoria will premiere on ITV a little bit later this fall; meanwhile, viewers in America will be stuck waiting for a little while longer until the new year in order to properly check it out.
