Could Fargo season 3 be series’ last on FX? It’s possible…
While speaking at the ATX Television Festival this weekend (per Entertainment Weekly), showrunner Noah Hawley explained that part of the problem about doing more of the series is that he doesn’t have a vision for what is coming next:
“I wasn’t sure if there would be a second season. I wasn’t sure if there would be a third season. At end of season 1, [FX] said, ‘If you want to leave it there [that would be fine].’ There’s only a certain amount of storytelling you can tell in that vein. And I love telling stories in this vein, but I don’t have another one yet. So watch the 10th hour [of season 3] because it might be the last.”
Clearly, the great thing about this show is that there is no hurry to bring it back for more episodes, and that’s more than okay since FX is the network. We’ve seen this game already with Louie that this is not a show where there is some big demand to do more stories right now. You can wait until there are some more ideas, and then get the ball rolling a little more at that time … if it ever happens. If not, you get three great seasons of the show, and you know that you won’t have to sit through a dud season in the process.
In the past, there have been comments about multiple timelines for future Fargo stories that bounce around between different eras. That is another challenge with this show — nobody’s interested in having it become like Murder, She Wrote where every week someone around this small town turns up murdered and you wonder how in the world it’s possible. Some are contemporary, whereas others are buried in the past. It could be fun to go back now to even before the events of season 2 just to get a more primitive sense of things … but there is a difference between an idea in theory and the execution of said idea.
What do you think: Will you feel satisfied if Fargo season 3 turns out to be the end? Be sure to share some thoughts now in the comments!
