The White Princess season 2 not happening, says Jodie Comer
Speaking in a post on Twitter (see below), the actress behind the title character Lizzie made it clear that the finale was the “last ever episode” of the drama — and what a last episode it was! Lizzie’s choice was a powerful one with her family and future in mind, even if it was painful to effectively send two other people to the executioner. This was a fine bit of historical drama, one that sets the stage for the Tudor empire to further blossom outward and expand with Henry VII and eventually Henry VIII.
There are more stories certainly to be told within this period, but it was always rather clear that they would not be told directly through The White Princess. The show was announced as a limited series before it began, and while viewership was solid for Starz on Sunday night, there was never much in the way of a demand to change that. Why would there be? If something is in fact working rather well, there isn’t quite a big reason for that to be changed around.
The one thing to remember here is that even with The White Princess coming to a close, this absolutely doesn’t mean that the entire idea of the show is dead and buried forever. There may still be opportunities for other adaptations or period dramas down the road, but it may take a little bit of time for them to be developed. Personally, we would enjoy seeing some sort of historical drama from Starz on an annual basis, similar to what FX is doing with American Horror Story or Fargo — they can be linked together in some way, even with a different cast turning up every single time. Whether it be set in England are other parts of the world, there are absolutely many great stories to be told.
