Game of Thrones season 7: Sophie Turner talks possible Sansa turn
Speaking in a new interview with Yahoo! out of Southeast Asia, Turner made it clear that specifically, her character and one of the show’s main villains at this point in Cersei may have a little bit more in common than one would think:
“They’re both so family-obsessed and family-oriented, and will do anything for the people they love. I can totally see her becoming a Cersei and kind of driven mad by it, by the threats against her family. At the end of the day, that’s why she does the things that she does, because she’s terrified of losing the people she loves. And so she’ll stop at nothing to protect them. If that means becoming like a ruthless killer, leader, sadistic woman or evil lady, then so be it. I don’t think it matters to her, and I can see Sansa swinging that way too.”
If there is a difference between Sansa and Cersei, and if there is a reason why she may be immune from swinging TOO far down the dark path, it’s that she does have better people around her that could keep her from doing anything too harmful. Jon Snow is someone who does want some element of good in the world, and then you can look at some other people like Brienne who still cares about things such as honor and duty.
As for what sort of influence Arya could have on her in the event that their paths cross, it’s certainly easy to imagine there being a little bit of trouble there just because Arya is so hell-bent on revenge. It may be good when it comes to the Starks emerging from the fray in one piece, but as for what sort of rulers that will be after the fact, it’s something that you do have to wonder.
