Bloodline season 3 episode 7 review: Did Sally Rayburn save her children from jail?
When Kevin gets on the stand, he starts in on his rehearsed story and points out Eric as Marco’s murderer. We expected his testimony to his own attorney’s to go fairly smoothly, and it did. When Eric’s lawyer gets a hold of Kevin though, she starts hammering in on him about all the phone calls made the night of Marco’s murder between the Rayburn siblings. While that rattles him a bit, he really starts to fall apart when she brings up his sister’s death, their father beating Danny, and the kids all lying about how Danny broke his arm to protect the family as a way to start to pull apart his credibility. When she focuses in on Meg as the real murderer saying that Kevin is covering for her, we can see some of the jury members shifting a bit. This went just about as badly as we thought it would.
With the Rayburn family “secret” about what happened to Danny’s arm out in the open, Kevin’s lawyer wants Sally to testify under oath that it never happened. Instead she gets up in front of the jury and sobs and cries while telling them the whole truth about what happened the say Sarah died. Eric can see that the jury is eating up everything she says and is watching his freedom slip away. His fate is sealed when she tells Eric’s lawyer that Meg was with her the night of the murder.
Eric’s lawyer originally wanted to ask for more time from the judge because she needed to find a way to prove that Chelsea drove Meg to Marco’s house the night of the murder so her testimony will be rock solid, but once Chelsea gets fired from her job for sneaking a pill, her credibility is ruined. Her testimony isn’t going to help any more, especially after Sally’s stellar performance in front of the jury. Eric decides to take the plea deal of 30 years and the trial is over. Looks like the Rayburn family got away with murder.
This is not the ending we were hoping for when it came to Eric’s future since we all know he didn’t do anything wrong and have been wanting to see the Rayburn’s face what they’ve done. While jail may not be in their future for these murders, it’s possible that Sally has something else planned for John and Kevin as we saw her talking to Gilbert at the end of the episode about doing something that can’t be taken back. Is she planning to have John killed over what he did to Danny? Rayburn justice? Episode grade: B+
