Absentia season 1: Two more countries bringing on Stana Katic series

As we get closer to the potential Absentia season 1 premiere later this year, more and more networks are getting on board!

For now, most of them seem within the AXN family, which shouldn’t come as too great of a surprise given the connections there between the networks and the studio Sony. Previously, we reported that the Stana Katic – Patrick Heusinger series would have a home on AXN Spain, and now both the Polish and Portuguese networks have also confirmed their participation. There will obviously be way more in the way of network participation down the line, as more and more broadcasters make their decisions known. There are some positive signs from AXN Bulgaria (the show was filmed in the country) and also the Latin American chapter, but nothing 100% confirmed just yet.

But what about a US network? – This is the question we’re asked the most, given that we are a US-based publication with a mostly-American readership eager to learn who could pick the show up. Alas, there still isn’t much of an indication there as to who the frontrunner could be for the series. Whatever network does get it could benefit mightily from Katic’s support base, and the nature of this series (a mystery where Stana’s Emily Byrne tries to uncover the truth behind the missing time in her past) is the sort that tends to appeal well to American viewers.

Out of the possible homes out there, we do contend still that TNT would make a great landing spot given their Castle syndication in the past. Meanwhile, NBC does have a great relationship with Sony already and has picked up shows like Hannibal that have a similar international backing. (Side note: We miss Hannibal.) Hopefully an announcement will come later this year, but there is no specific timeline as to when that could happen.
