The Bachelorette spoilers: Dean Unglert, Rachel Lindsay, and a comment that won’t die

Dean Unglert

On Monday night’s new episode of The Bachelorette, one thing will become very clear with Dean Unglert: His first impression on Rachel Lindsay is not going away ANYTIME soon.

Remember when Dean uttered to her that now-infamous variation on the “once you go black…” joke? Well, this introduction is now beaten into the ground more than any variation on said introduction ever. The sneak peek below from Monday night’s new episode offers up a little bit more in the way of insight on this very thing. Rachel and Dean have a romantic / awkward conversation, one where there is further validation from Rachel that she actually loved Dean’s introduction, even if there are plenty of other people out there inevitably hate it. Rachel’s taking a very open perspective on race so far this season, being welcoming of people from all walks of life and allowing them to in turn be welcoming towards here. Race is not a subject that we as a writer can properly relate to in the context of the show, but for the most part, this show is steering clear of the conversation so far to focus on love.

Ultimately, even with Dean and Rachel they are using this first conversation together as a means to flirt and get closer. The end of this sneak preview is actually very much similar to the end of many episodes / scenes on the franchise over the years: Dean wants to kiss her, but starts to become afraid that he’s moving in too quickly. As a result of that, he pulls back and this moment effectively doesn’t end up going anywhere beyond a flirty conversation. In a confession, dean regrets that he didn’t push the issue further, realizing somewhere along the way that he probably blew his opportunity to make some serious inroads when it comes to his standing.

Will this cost him in the long run? Maybe, but it’s hard to see him getting eliminated based on where things stand right now. Rachel seems clearly into him, and awkward After the Final Rose comment aside he’s got a personality that seems amiable enough that he’s not going to stir up too much drama in the house. He should be easy to deal with.

What do you think about the way this Dean – Rachel conversation goes, and what this could mean for the rest of the season? Share in the comments below!
