Is Blindspot new tonight? Highs, lows of Friday move
Alas, on this occasion you’re going to have to wait … for a long time. The series is over for the spring, and will not be back until September or October. To go along with that further, when the show does return it’s going to be on a new night in Fridays, albeit at the same time in 8:00 p.m. Eastern.
In the end, is this timeslot going to be a blessing or a curse for the show? That’s something that will be interesting to see play out over time, given that Friday is not necessarily the TV death-slot that it used to be. The good news with Blindspot airing there is that it gets away from Survivor, which is at this point one of the top-rated shows on network TV in the 18-49 demographic, but the mad news is that it ends up against two popular shows in MacGyver and Once Upon a Time. Many networks made the surprising decision to program dramas on Friday nights, and seeing how this unfolds is going to be one of the more interesting developments of the fall season.
One of the good things for Blindspot here, meanwhile, is that it does lower the overall expectation somewhat. If the show can muster around a 0.8 rating here for the majority of the season, it’s got a good chance of getting a renewal for another season. On the flip side, having this rating on a Wednesday night would probably lead to a cancellation.
The show’s got a tricky road ahead, trying to secure viewers who may be off either watching other shows or doing other things on Fridays. In the end, though, this spot could end up being a positive if the current viewers all keep watching — even if no one else picks it up live. For now, consider this one of the most interesting ratings discussions worth having moving into the fall.
