Saturday Night Live finale promo: Dwayne Johnson, Katy Perry set the stage
Alas, this preview is fairly simple when it comes to setting up the Dwayne Johnson – Katy Perry episode, as it mostly has to do with the two parties making very random song references while Perry sports yet another different look for her appearance on the show. If you think back at all of the different times in which she’s appeared, she’s often had a very separate look in all of them. It’s a nice way to compliment some of her evolution as an artist.
As for whether or not Katy will appear in a sketch, that feels almost like a given because of her history doing so already. The larger question you will be left to wonder is what sort of appearance it will be. She can do off-the-wall funny, but also be a little bit more subdued.
In going back to the how, Johnson is known mostly for two different characters; The Rock Obama and Coco, the wrestler who tore up the screen the last time he was on the show. If you’re thinking in terms of larger headlines, the exit of Bobby Moynihan after the finale could mean that this is the right time to bring Coco back since that was one of the most memorable sketches of the past several years. Something big with Bobby is probably going to come, whether it be this or an appearance from one of his signature characters like a Drunk Uncle or a Riblet. Our feeling is that, more than likely, it will be the former and hopefully he’ll have an exit almost as epic as Stefon back when Bill Hader left the show. It’s going to be pretty hard, though, to stop Seth trying to stop Stefon and Anderson Cooper from getting married.
Aside from all of that, the one other expectation is a huge appearance from Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump — after all, this could be the last time the character shows up in this form as SNL closes out arguably its greatest season since the Tina Fey – Sarah Palin era.
