Bull episode 22 review: Bull, J.P. Nunnelly do a little teamwork
At the center of the episode tonight was a story that was all about the concealment of records, privacy, and ensuring that a cloud computer company had the right to retain files rather than handing them over to the FBI. This is certainly one of the most relevant cases this season, but it posed many different problems for the Bull – J.P. partnership. For one, the two still had trust issues; also, they had a different way of doing things. At one point Bull ended up rocking her confidence in her argument to the point where she didn’t believe what she was saying in front of the jury. The funniest moment of probably the entire episode was watching Bull cough in ridiculous fashion in order to get her to get a recess so they could talk things over and readjust.
J.P. and Bull eventually did get a win, and the connection between the two continues to blossom. Is this anything more than a flirtation? That is one great question to ponder over moving into the finale with all of their assorted dinner talk. The brilliance of the two characters, though, is that they can go from being flirtatious to dropping a ball about the real guilty part in their case a mere matter of moments later.
In the closing minutes, J.P. and Bull unearthed the truth at the heart of the case, which meant that Harry’s entire career went spiraling. While it was a predictable reveal in some ways, it was smart and well-constructed in others. If you can connect the dots to why a guilty party did something, you’ve got a great episode on your hands.
Final verdict
Another very good episode of Bull, anchored largely by the fact that J.P. allows the audience to have a character who Bull can never quite attain. She’s a mystery still in some ways, while also incredibly accomplished in others. The one flaw in “Dirty Little Secrets,” meanwhile, was that so much of the content was crammed into the final minutes and could’ve been paced a little better throughout the hour.
