Is Home Fires new tonight? On Poldark, Line of Duty, other worthy drama
Is Home Fires on tonight? Given the devastating cliffhanger of last week’s episode and all of the story threads you want resolved, it’s fair to wonder.
Unfortunately, the bad news that is coming in this article is worse than just bad news. It’s news that may knock you over entirely if you haven’t heard it yet. There is no new episode of Home Fires tonight because Home Fires is done as a series. British network ITV canceled the series at the end of the second season. There is more of the story coming in book form, but this is the end of the road for the television show itself, unfortunately.
It’s understandable that you may be looking for some great British drama to help fill the void left by this show not being on the air. With that in mind, how about some suggestions? Take a look at some personal picks below that may help to fill the void.
Poldark – An excellent period drama that continues romance, action, drama, and Aidan Turner being all sorts of fantastic. Season 3 airs on PBS this fall, and past episodes are available on Amazon.
Line of Duty – Think of this almost as Major Crimes meets Scandal, as it’s a modern-day series featuring a crime unit trying to stop corruption within the police force.
Vera – An excellent mystery series in the vein of a Broadchurch or a Murder, She Wrote for a modern generation. there are several seasons out there worth checking out on Acorn.
Broadchurch – It was already mentioned, but it’s worth a reminder that the third and final season will air soon on BBC America.
Grantchester – Another fantastic mystery series available through PBS and the Masterpiece label.
Obviously, Call the Midwife is another great recommendation, but odds are that you’re aware of it given that it is airing before Home Fires did on the schedule. Meanwhile, Sherlock is obviously great, but it is so mainstream that it’s hardly worth mentioning it again. If you are a British TV fan aware of Home Fires, there’s a good chance that Sherlock is already in the rotation.
How much will you miss Home Fires, and what are some of your other favorite British programs on the air right now? Be sure to sound off in the comments!
