The Last Ship season 5 filming on hiatus; Eric Dane takes on depression
We want to start the discussion here by making it clear that this condition is something that Dane disclosed publicly through his representative. Here is the statement that was offered via Variety:
“Eric asked for a break to deal with personal issues … He suffers from depression and has asked for a few weeks of downtime and the producers kindly granted that request. He looks forward to returning.”
We want to applaud Dane now for being willing to open up about this publicity, given that this is something that many people battle. Having him speaking out about it in any way could in turn help many people out there to realize that it’s okay to mention their own personal struggles. In turn, it helps to alleviate more of the stigma surrounding mental health.
Per the aforementioned site, production on the series is going to resume at some point around Memorial Day, and it will continue to be underway over the course of the next several months. Filming for the fourth season wrapped many weeks ago (check out our piece on that over at the link here), so we’re going to get a chance to see that before long. We’re just waiting for the time being to get an official premiere date courtesy of TNT.
For those who do not remember, the season 3 finale ended with Dane’s Tom Chandler questioning much of his future in the way of a complicated, difficult story that found him questioning whether he was the right leader to help both the remaining United States military and the rest of the country. The show is as electric and fast-paced as always, and we’re curious in seeing what is coming up next.
One there is some further news to report on when it comes to The Last Ship and the show’s future, we’ll have it for you over at the link here. For the time being, though, we wish Eric the best as he recovers from what is ailing him. (Photo: TNT.)
