Roseanne Barr speaks out about Roseanne revival talk

While a Roseanne revival is not official just yet, the series’ star in Roseanne Barr is making it clear that she’s down for the idea.

Speaking in a series of posts on Twitter, the comedian made it clear that one of the biggest reasons to bring the show back now is to take a further look at a very different political climate than the one that was there when the show last went off the air: “I will let you guys know when/if there is to be a reboot of Roseanne … of course I want to do a reboot of Roseanne-new political reality in our country will make for some great jokes!”

The revival that is being discussed right now is for an eight-episode run. ABC and other networks have been linked to it, but the preference is to go with the network that originally aired the show in ABC, and understandably so. We do think that there’s an interesting idea here in attached the show to the network’s Tuesday comedy block to give it more of a lift around the 9:00 p.m. hour. You could also probably stick it somewhere else, or maybe do something risky and use it to help save a Saturday lineup that is currently in a little bit of a downward spiral.

Would people watch Roseanne in 2017? That’s one of the biggest questions. One of the real polarizing parts of TV revivals is the simple notion that a lot of them is rooted into a particular moment in history and in life. Maybe you were deeply attached emotionally to the original Roseanne, but when the new version of the show airs, for whatever reason it won’t feel fresh or funny anymore. These are things you have to consider. Another one here is burnout, given that shows like Fuller House and Girl Meets World both started enormously popular before losing some steam commercially. While Fuller House is still on the air, in the first season there was buzz around it as one of the most popular comedies not only on Netflix, but all of TV. (Those season 1 ratings may be enough of a justification to bring Barr and company back, even if the show struggles to live up to some of those initial expectations.)
