Reign series finale to air in June; Adelaide Kane on potential ending
The series finale, a part of the larger schedule released today by the network, is mostly significant because of the fact that it will be the only one airing for The CW the remainder of the spring presumably — while iZombie and The Originals have yet to be renewed, we’ve gotten very little of a sense that either one of them is planning to end their show for the time being. This one is more significant given that this is for sure the end … and it may not be a great one for Mary, given how her story does end in some of the history books.
Unfortunately, it’s not going to be so easy getting more scoop on the end of the show. For the time being, all series star Adelaide Kane would tease to TVLine is the following:
“We have taken some very generous creative liberties with our storylines, but we have kept the bones fairly accurate. I mean, if we were going to throw the baby out with the bathwater, we would have had Francis live. And then none of this would have happened!”
Ultimately, it’s hard to see the show changing the end of Mary’s story that much from what it really was — after all, if you start to rewrite history, then it makes you wonder what the entire point of the show was in the first place. This is certainly something that you do have to think about.
For the time being, the thing that we remain hopeful about is that we’re going to get a great journey one way or another that gets us to that point. Because of the writers knowing in advance that this was the final season for Reign, they probably had some further opportunities to plan things out than they really would have otherwise.
