Deadwood movie script reportedly turned in to HBO
Speaking to TVLine, the actor (who is set to appear on the Starz series American Gods starting later this month) made it very clear that the “two-hour movie script [from original creator David Milch] has been delivered to HBO … If they don’t deliver [a finished product], blame them.”
Does this mean that the actual product could be happening? Well, let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. The Deadwood movie is the perfect example of Lucy pulling away the football. Every time that we think that we’re getting closer to the project happening, something comes up at the last minute and then it doesn’t end up coming to fruition. We hope that this is not the case here. Maybe there are talks that will happen with the network and Milch, but that’s the sort of thing that we’re for the most part used to since it happens with almost every network out there.
One little thing that may help the project get done is that Milch has a better-than-ever relationship with HBO at the moment. Remember that some of the recent reports out there make it clear that he is working with Nic Pizzolatto on a new season of True Detective, one that we hope is going to be coming out at some point next year. Our personal hope is that a Deadwood movie could get done by late 2018 or early 2019, but it may even be wrong for us to throw a potential date out there into the universe just yet. It’s just hard to not get excited when you’re talking about FREAKING DEADWOOD here. If you weren’t engaged and excited with this idea in some way, we’d question what in the world is going on.
At this point, our hope is that maybe HBO will have some further update on the state of the project when we get to the TCA Summer Press Tour a little later this year.
