2 Broke Girls season 7 renewal possible; season 6 finale not planned as series finale

Is a 2 Broke Girls season 7 possible over on CBS? While it may be understandable to worry about a cancellation, there is still hope. Specifically, the folks behind the scenes at the show were not planning on sending Max and Caroline off into the sunset at the end of this season — even if you can easily argue that the two title “girls” are not all that broke anymore after finally finding a little bit of success this season.

In speaking further on this subject to TVLine, executive producer Michelle Nader made it clear that the finale wasn’t written to be the end of the series:

“This is not the end for these girls … We’re not finished and we don’t want to be finished and I don’t think the audience is finished. Obviously there’s no guarantee that we will be back, but we did not write the episode as a series finale.”

There are some reasons to think that the show’s in danger, despite of course some of the wide array of reports out there that it is. First things first, you have to consider the fact that to date, it is averaging a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic. It doesn’t really matter how you slice it; that is a concerning number that makes you worried as to whether or not we could see the show back on CBS. Maybe if this was another network, it would be a sure-fire renewal; the issue there is mostly that this is a network that has a higher expectation than many of the other ones that are out there.

Also, you can argue that with Max and Caroline experiencing a little more success these days, there’s less a reason to definitively keep the show going — even though we still like to think that there is, just from the vantage point that there may not be a complete sense of closure in the finale. If the show just needs one more season, even if it’s just 13 more episodes, is that too much to ask? We do think that, given that this was at one point a pretty marquee sitcom for CBS, it deserves a chance to ride off into the sunset in the way that it sees fit.
