Britain’s Got Talent review: Meet Sarah Ikumu, Simon Cowell’s golden buzzer
As we’ve done with past reviews for BGT, we’re going to go through and offer some quick-takes of some of the acts who tried out and impressed. We’ll probably ignore most of the duds.
Ned Woodman – We don’t love it when kids come out and rely on their cuteness. We love Ned because he went hard at the judges and showed a good bit of roasting talent. What you’ve gotta wonder now is whether this was a one-shot act in terms of material.
Dan Graham – Who doesn’t want to see a cheesy dancing policeman? There may not be a whole lot of actual talent here, but we don’t care — he made us laugh.
Paws with Soul – This was basically Boogie Storm except with people in animal masks and suits. Fun, not entirely original, but not that we minded all that much.
Jess Robinson – We previously teased Jess as an audition on Friday, and there was a lot to like here. She was able to command the stage despite her nerves, and deliver a number of GREAT auditions. Love the Cheryl Cole and Katherine Jenkins ones, mostly because it showed that she can do more than just impressions.
DNA – Mind readers, and really good ones to boot! this one was very clever not only in how they had many interesting “tricks,” but also tricks-within-tricks. Take, for example, the bit with the camouflage shirts that were black by the tail end of it.
Missing People Choir – We had a lot more to say about this group over at the link here, so be sure to check that out.
Dog yoga – This was …weird. Apparently, it just made some of the dogs want to pee everywhere. It’s not so much an act as some weird experience you do when you’re really bored and trying to figure out what to do.
Niels Harder – Apparently, ITV still isn’t done licensing out Fleur East’s “Sax.” That said, Niels is nuts. His tricks are decent, but we think that this was more about the character than it was the actual act, which was fine because he was incredibly entertaining.
Sarah Ikumu – There was no other golden buzzer act tonight; therefore, we assumed that it was going to be Sarah, who closed out the show with her “And I Am Telling You I Am Not Going” cover. She said that she wanted to take the song on, and she delivered a powerful rendition. The biggest thing we noticed about her is that in a few years, she could probably be worthy of some stage performances if she wants to go in that direction.
This performance by the end was enough for Simon to give her his GOLDEN BUZZER! The first one has been dished out. Wonderful.
