Big Little Lies season 2: If impossible, here are some alternatives
We understand some of the reasons why that is, given that the network released a report earlier this week claiming that in one form or another, more than 7 million people on average are checking out the series. That’s a pretty beefy audience for a show of this nature! It proves that the popularity is there for a season 2; unfortunately, we don’t get any indication that it’s actually happening.
There are many reasons to why away from a specific season 2, given that this episode tonight is the end of the source material, and the entire cast was seemingly signed on for just a limited series. Given the schedules for Reese Witherspoon and others, it seems like a lot to ask that everyone find a way to get back together again and continue working on the project. It’s a wonderful dream, but unfortunately, that’s really all it is: A dream.
So what are some alternatives to a traditional season 2? We do think there are some options here to look at:
1. Another project featuring Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and Shailene Woodley – Even if there is no more story to tell here, it feels like the leading ladies here all had a great time working on the show. Why not do something similar to American Horror Story and simply create a series of separate stories with a similar cast? They wouldn’t all be under the same title, but part of the idea could be the same.
2. Another project from executive producer David E. Kelley – Kelley is a genius, and it was tremendous to have him work on a series that allowed him so much creativity. Even if the cast is different, giving him a separate HBO show would allow him to continue to echo some of the themes and the great storytelling that we had this time around.
3. Everyone go watch The Leftovers season 3 – Hey, it’s the final season and it has nothing to do with Big Little Lies. We just think it’s an amazing show that everyone should check out.
In your mind, what’s the best way for Big Little Lies to exist beyond the episode tonight? Be sure to share in the comments!
