Arrow season 5 spoilers: Vigilante’s identity won’t be answered soon
In the wake of learning that Adrian Chase is Prometheus, this means that there is a new-found mystery with the other main villain of the season now. We recently wrote a lengthy article all about some of the possible candidates for the role, but we are no closer to an answer now than we were beforehand. Also, it doesn’t look like the powers-that-be at the show are going to offer much help.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Marc Guggenheim made it clear that they know the answer to who is under the mask, but that we as viewers “probably will not get the answer to that in season 5.” Why the wait? It obviously suggests first and foremost that this is not a one-season villain, and that there is some sort of larger plan.
Also, maybe this lends itself to speculation that the identity of Vigilante is someone who is not currently a central part of the show. (Does this lower the chances of the Paul theory being true?) There are so many reasons ultimately why the show could be waiting on this; it may be as simple as the writers not wanting to cram too much information down anyone’s throat at one particular time. They have a focused story with Prometheus right now, and Vigilante is just an extension of that.
In the end, we’re fine with waiting in that instance because this is a really strong character and someone we’re enjoying having on as a villain. We do get the sense that he’s a significant threat to the team, and he’s not a pushover like some of the other villains that we have. Sure, he’s not at a Slade Wilson level, but Vigilante is one of the reasons why season 5 is the strongest overall season since season 2 in our eyes.
