Don’t expect The Vampire Diaries revival after series finale
Could a Vampire Diaries revival happen at some point in the future? Don’t count on it, based on some of the information out there.
While speaking to reporters (per Entertainment Weekly) following a recent screening for the penultimate episode of the series, star Paul Wesley said that he feels as though he’s “closing a chapter” with the show after the March 10 episode. His co-star Ian Somerhalder agreed, though he also joked that come ten years from now he’d be off on a ranch in Wyoming somewhere and you would never hear from him again.
There are some shows that are conducive to coming back for more episodes, but this is probably not one of them. Remember that Damon and Stefan Salvatore have spent the majority of the series immortal, and with that, they’ve had to spend much of their time sporting the same hairstyle and looking as though they haven’t aged at all. We have to imagine that in the months that follow the show, they’ll probably shave their heads, grow massive beards, or possibly a combination of the two. There’s something freeing about the opportunity to change up your look — a good example of this is Jon Hamm seemingly rarely shaving except when he was filming Mad Men, given that the role required him to shave frequently to the point of it getting tiresome.
If Damon and Stefan are immortal at the end of the series finale, it’d be strange to bring the show back and pretend like they still were the same age. Doesn’t quite work right, does it? We’d admire the show for the effort, but sometimes, you do just have to move on. Given the show’s recent ratings, there is also no commercial reason to do a Vampire Diaries revival, either.
What we can offer you before you take off from this article is a sneak preview at what could be the big June wedding taking place on the show Friday night — though nothing is for sure on that. Just head over here to read some of the first details.
