Once Upon a Time musical episode will carry over into season 6 finale
When the news first broke about the Once Upon a Time musical episode, we were certainly pretty darn excited. It was, after all, a very good chance to see the magic of the show extended to something else that feels perfect for the Disney brand. Yet, there are still questions out there suggesting not only how it will work, but also whether or not it will matter to the overall story.
Luckily, it just so turns out that the musical couldn’t be more important — it’ll be integral for setting up the story in the upcoming finale. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight in a recent interview, this news was confirmed by executive producer Edward Kitsis. Meanwhile, fellow EP Adam Horowitz passed along the following message of his own:
“It actually is a huge part of the mythology of the show and there are some big things that happen in the episode … Frankly, it’s been one of the challenges of doing the musical because we never wanted to do something where it was just like a to-the-side, one-off thing, and then get back to the main story. We want to see it part of the main story, which meant we had to really plan out this season with some great detail.”
This episode is going to be the second-to-last that airs this season, so it basically has to set up the finale and contain some important character revelations at the same time.
The reason we like it for this show is because Once Upon a Time long has existed in some sort of extreme reality in the first place. In one way or another, it’s always been heightened, and as a result of that there’s nothing altogether weird about seeing something people perform musical numbers while in an otherwise-realistic world. Yet, we do contend that there are some other TV musicals that aren’t the best. Some of them felt tacked-on, and others felt like they weren’t connected enough to the story.
We will have more on the potential musical episode in due time; for now, head over here for some further details on the story to come this season, including some teases for Regina fans.
