Victoria season 2: Game of Thrones actress, industry icon Diana Rigg joins cast
Just in case there was not enough intrigue already surrounding the ITV series Victoria, we now bring you the following news: Diana Rigg is going to jump on board as a key player. The actress, best known for her work as Lady Olenna on Game of Thrones, will be signing on as the Duchess of Buccleuch for the upcoming second season. She is someone who will be a trusted adviser to the Queen, but also someone who is known for making her thoughts known and not backing down. As the second season progresses, there will need to be a rather large awareness to this very thing on Victoria’s part.
This news also coincides with the announcement that the second season of the series is going to begin filming in preparation for a debut later this season. In a statement, writer Daisy Goodwin had the following to say about what to expect:
“In series one Victoria married the handsome prince, but in this series she and Albert get down to the serious business of living happily, sometimes stormily, ever after. Victoria is the only Queen Regnant to marry and give birth while on the throne and the challenges of being head of state as well as a wife and mother are legion. In many ways Victoria’s dilemma is a modern one – how do you have a successful marriage and a happy family when you are holding down an important job. Can you really have it all?”
This news is also coming about at a time in which Victoria is coming to a close on PBS in America. The season 1 finale is poised to air in the country on Sunday, and while it is yet to take off in the way that Downton Abbey did, there is still plenty of time for its audience to expand and for a much wider array of people to become familiar with the property.
Once there is some further casting news to report, we will have it for you here.
