Former Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe: Dancing with the Stars gig nixed by show creator
In a post on Twitter, Bristowe claimed that she was “offered” a spot on the dance competition and even had the contract to a prior season. However, she claims (see the tweet below) that she was banned by Bachelorette creator / executive producer Mike Fleiss, who said that he “didn’t want people wanting fame after his show.” If this is the case, then it certainly seems rather hypocritical on Fleiss’ part given that Chris Soules, Sean Lowe, and Jake Pavelka have all done the show over the past several seasons. Trista Sutter was on back during the first season, but that’s the last time that a Bachelorette starred on the show. (Melissa Rycroft appeared twice, but she was a Bachelor contestant and never appeared on the show as the star.)
The only reason this is coming up is because of the reports that Nick Viall, who was famously on Kaitlyn’s season before becoming the Bachelor, will be named to this season of Dancing with the Stars over the coming days.
The added bit of irony here is that given Bristowe’s dance experience, she probably would have went far into the competition. The truth here is that we get the philosophy in theory of not wanting people to come on the reality franchise assuming that they are going to be able to turn it into some huge career after the fact. That only adds to the incentive for people to show up for the “wrong reasons.” The issue here is that this is going to happen anyway at this point, so you may as well let people do what they want. If they’re not appearing on other reality shows, then they’re making money off of Instagram adverts or doing nightclub appearances. We’re obviously speaking in general terms here rather than as a nod to any one contestant. You just have to have faith in your casting process that you want someone there for love, and maybe fame is just an aftereffect of that.
If Fleiss did in fact nix the gig for Kaitlyn, what do you make of that and the possible double standard that it suggests? Share in the comments. (Photo: ABC.)
