‘Lethal Weapon’ renewed by Fox for season 2

Lethal Weapon -

The methodical-but-glorious renewals by Fox continue.

One day removed from the news coming out that the network was bringing back a different show in “The Mick” for a second season, it’s now been confirmed that “Lethal Weapon” will be meeting a similar fate. There is no word precisely yet on how many episodes that the second season will have, but we anticipate that the show will continue to have numerous opportunities to shine on the schedule. This was consistently the network’s #2 show through much of the season this fall in terms of scripted dramas, falling only behind “Empire” (of course). It also has held on fairly well to its numbers this winter, despite not having the Taraji P. Henson series on the air as a lead-in.

In a statement, Fox’s entertainment president David Madden had the following to say about the news:

Lethal Weapon continues to fire on all cylinders. Every week, it delivers a big, fun rollercoaster ride, but also remains touchingly human and genuinely emotional, and that’s due to the chemistry that’s developed not only between Damon Wayans and Clayne Crawford, but the entire cast.”

What this news also means is that as we go into the home stretch of “Lethal Weapon” with its finale ever approaching, you can watch the show with confidence and without worrying about whether or not the end is going to be right around the corner. That’s a luxury that many shows do not have, especially in 2017 where there are SO many different ones on the air that have a hard time competing. We’re really at the point now where its survival of the fittest, and what makes this show work, beyond the franchise name, is that it is able to provide a great combination of relentless action and humor, something that other successful shows like “Hawaii Five-0” and “MacGyver” are bringing to the table elsewhere.
