‘Bull’ episode 15 preview: Jill Flint returns in ‘What’s Your Number?’
One of the things that we’ve been most excited to see the title character on “Bull” have is some sort of serious rival, someone who could match wits with him and make it very difficult for him to do his job effectively. We want to use the Sherlock / Moriarty comparison, mostly because that’s the most fun (and we may still be in “Sherlock” mode given that we just watched the fourth season of the show a month ago).
Luckily, it feels like either the show is reading our mind, or they’re just on the same page as us — Jill Flint (“The Night Shift,” “Royal Pains”) is going to be coming back next week as Diana Lindsay! She’s someone who proved to be a formidable rival earlier this season, as she’s capable of matching wits with him in the courtroom. Also, she’s got a romantic history with him that allows her to destabilize Michael Weatherly’s character in a way few others can.
Synopsis – “When Bull assists the U.S. Attorney’s Office with a manslaughter trial against a real estate magnate, Andrew Withrow (Toby Leonard Moore), he finds himself once again opposing Diana Lindsay (Jill Flint), his romantic rival. As the case gets underway, Bull’s penchant for winning goes into overdrive when he realizes the defendant is a clinical sociopath determined to use Diana to antagonize him during the proceedings.”
While Flint’s other commitments likely make it hard to see her beyond a small handful of episodes a season, we feel like the show’s going to make the most of the Diana – Bull dynamic whenever she turns up. One of the other fun things about her coming on now is that we feel like we understand Jason Bull and many of the other characters better now than we did when she was around last, which was in the early going of the run; this should allow the writers to dive into some more complex issues and get us all the more invested in the courtroom battles to come.
