‘Victoria’ episode 5 preview (PBS): Pressing on for a purpose
Tonight, “Victoria” as a series is doing something that is certainly risky — after all, this is a show that is making the bold decision to air a new episode opposite the Super Bowl. This is hardly a new tradition for PBS, given that they’ve done this on so many occasions before with shows like “Downton Abbey,” so it makes a little bit of sense for them to try to do something similar here, as well.
Tonight, you’re going to see Jenna Coleman’s title character wrestle with many different things, including trying to find a way to handle the political ramifications that come with being someone like Albert. To a certain extent, this is something that she is going to continue to have to take on, but she’ll be moving forward as she tries to make sure that she finds a way to make everything work for her life.
Of course, Albert is going to be dealing with many of the same problems himself. He’s someone who is very much going to need to adjust to being in a new place, and dealing with a very different set of circumstances than what he’s used to. Hopefully, this is something that he’ll be able to figure out how to do in a relatively short period of time.
Synopsis – “Albert struggles to find his purpose far from home. Victoria finds a way to have it all.”
Of course, the fun thing about watching this series is that we as viewers know that Victoria DOES figure out a way in order to get much of what she wants. There are drawbacks, but she does end up having one of the most notable reigns in the history of the British monarchy. Also, her love story with Albert is one for the ages, and you are clearly going to see more and more of that over the course of the season.
