‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 10, episode 14 preview: Sheldon’s new experiment
With all of this, there’s something that is inherently sweet about Sheldon trying to find a way to detect how his friends are feeling come Thursday night when the next new episode airs. However, in true Sheldon fashion, he has a tendency to take it a little bit too far. In the two sneak peeks below, you can get a sense of what we’re talking about here. He learns that there is a new MIT device that is going to enable him to better read and understand some of the emotions of those around him, so he is on the hunt to get this device and use it on his friends.
Despite the comical way in which the invention is presented, we do think that Sheldon is genuine in his motivation; unfortunately, this is probably going to blow up in his face. In life, sometimes ambiguity is good. If we really knew how everyone was feeling around us all of the time, it’d probably be hurtful more than helpful. You don’t want to know sometimes if someone is “just being nice,” just as sometimes people want the ability to let someone down easy. This could cause all of Sheldon’s friends to distance themselves from him, especially if this thing starts to become used as a metaphorical polygraph.
Maybe we’re reading into the idea of this story too seriously — but hey, that is something we tend to do here and there since there are serious undertones often to the silliness.
