Will an ‘Outlander’ season 3 teaser accompany ‘Black Sails’ season 4?
Yesterday, we wrote a piece about some of the great secrecy and mystery that is surrounding at the moment the fourth season of “Black Sails” on Starz. Despite this being a show that is just one week from coming on the air, we still do not know all that much about the specific events of the premiere.
Now, why not lob one mystery on top of the next and start to ponder over whether or not an “Outlander” teaser could be on the horizon? We’ve suggested before that a proper teaser could be coming over the next month or two, or that a trailer could be turning up by the end of February. In the wake of the People’s Choice Awards victory, the fans are likely due something in the way of footage.
For Starz, it makes the most sense to pair up an “Outlander” teaser with “Black Sails” strictly on the basis of attention alone. Want people to consider watching the pirate drama outside of the ordinary fan base? Then promise a promo either before or after it. Do this on several occasions during the season, and you are giving the show additional attention. It will obviously be online mere minutes after it first premieres (this is the internet age, after all), but there is something so wonderful about being there for that first moment of seeing the teaser alongside millions of other fans around the world. It’s a shared experience you cannot quite replace.
While we’d personally bet on seeing some sort of teaser before “Black Sails” comes to a close, a whole lot of it could depend on when season 3 actually premieres, and there’s been chatter across the board on that. We’ve tried to stay true to the idea of April just because that is when season 2 premiered (plus the second half of season 1); but, if production lasts longer, it’s feasible that it could start later than that. To us, the biggest thing that complicates the whole premiere-date discussion for Starz right now is that they’ve got three series coming up in “Outlander,” “Power,” and “American Gods” that are all worthy of prime real estate. How do you divide them up? Do you put on “American Gods” and push “Outlander” back, or do you air two shows at the same time? Do you put one on a different night? Starz will hopefully make some announcements in the weeks ahead, and once we get a sense of this, we’ll have a better understanding as to where the pieces will fall, and also when we’ll get a chance to see that teaser we so crave.
