‘Gotham’ season 3, episode 12 preview: The Jerome questions keep on coming

On Monday, the third season of “Gotham” is going to finally return with some new episodes, and to go along with that, all signs point to us finally being able to get some key answers on Jerome. Is he alive? Is he dead? Is his head being frozen cryogenically somewhere? Given this show’s penchant for being able to bring people back constantly from the other side, this really is one of those situations where almost anything is possible.

The creepiest part of this whole mystery for the time being is that thumbnail image below. Sure, you’ve probably seen Jerome wearing this “face” before in some of the pictures that Cameron Monaghan posted on social media, but this is a far clearer image of it. This look is a little similar to the Joker we’ve seen in some recent comic iterations, and it’s terrifying in a Frankenstein’s Monster sort of way.

If Jerome does come back, how does it happen? That’s one of the other things that you have to wonder, given that it doesn’t appear as though there is any motive for any of the established characters to fight to get him back. He’s not the sort of adversary you can align with, given that he’s thoroughly unpredictable and he doesn’t have any moral compass at all. Maybe you can argue that Barbara had a bond with him, but even she’s moved on and is in a better place. Bringing him back throws her life into chaos.

Regardless of how he comes back, it seems clear that in one way or another, we’re going to see Monaghan in action and that’s exciting. He’s a villain who could threaten everyone, and given that there are only a few episodes airing in the month of January, he seems like the perfect threat to come in and wreck some stuff before we get around to the hiatus. Even if his time on the show is short, there’s a perfectly good chance that it’ll still be sweet.
