‘The Fosters’ renewed for season 5 prior to season 4 premiere

Fosters -

Freeform is choosing today to make a tremendous show of faith when it comes to the future of “The Fosters.” Today, the cable network confirmed that they have renewed the drama featuring Maia Mitchell and others for a fifth season, which is going to be potentially premiering as early as this summer.

So why make this announcement now? One of the big reasons is because of the way that the show tends to divide up much of their content. They need to give the writers time to come up with stories before the show premieres in the summer, just as it also helps to give fans reassurances that the show won’t be going anywhere in the near future. They can focus on what matters (the story with this family) more so than the stuff that shouldn’t matter as much to the everyday viewer, like ratings and having to fight to save a show.

Like with any other show on the air right now, there is probably an expiration date for “The Fosters,” but we hope that it doesn’t come for another year or two. Whenever it does end, we do hope that the network allows it to have the chance to announce it a handful of episodes in advance. This is a series and a story that means a heck of a lot to people, so the idea of them not being able to do any sort of proper send-off for it is somewhat depressing. It deserves to have opportunities to end on its own terms, and viewers want to continue to be inspired by these characters.

The second half of season 4 premieres on January 31 (it’s just three weeks away!), and some of the larger stories when it comes to that will be Jesus trying to recover from a dangerous head injury suffered both in the garage and then in the midst of a fight with Gabe; meanwhile, Callie’s life is in jeopardy thanks to being in a car with a suspected murderer, and Mariana has to try and recover from a recent addiction to Jesus’ ADHD medication.
