‘Arrow’ season 5, episode 10 and the Black Siren theory

Black Siren -We should start this particular “Arrow” article off with a warning: Go watch the new season 5 promo over at the link here before you continue reading. Otherwise, nothing else from here on out would make a whole lot of sense.

Are we going to have a chance to see Black Siren as a part of this universe? Based on some of the information that is out there courtesy of the promo, signs point to yes. Laurel Lance is dead, and the promo clearly made it clear that the person who is back is not the same woman we once saw within the world of the show. Meanwhile, we know that Black Siren, the Earth-2 incarnation, is still out there. On “The Flash” last season, she was one of the leaders of Zoom’s army of meta-humans that he unleashed upon Central City in an attempt to have his way and stop Barry Allen once and for all.

What’s happened since that time? This is where things are not entirely clear. It is possible that in some ways, Black Siren coming to Star City could be a redemption tour. Maybe she’s free now of Zoom’s hold and wants to do some good in the world. Maybe that’s why she disguises herself as Laurel from Earth-1, but when she is found out, she fights back and attacks with one of her signature cries.

Or, maybe she went to the city with the sole purpose of causing harm, and severing even more of the world so that she could leave her mark on Earth-1. In some ways, we would understand why Star City would be an easier target for someone like her than Central City, given that Oliver would be vulnerable towards her because of Laurel; oh, and there are a significantly smaller number of meta-humans running around here at any given time. On paper, it makes sense why this would be a little bit more of a haven for someone like her.

Regardless of what the show decides, we just hope that it is interesting, and that the arrival of this Laurel doesn’t alter too much the fabric of what has been build so far on what is a pretty great season of the show. We came to really love the character by the time she died, and that is a cause of our excitement a little bit more than almost anything else.
