Is ‘Empire’ season 3, episode 10 tonight? Return date and scheduling intentions

Let’s start this particular article about “Empire” with a sad-but-true reminder that there is, unfortunately, no new episode of the show airing on fox tonight. It’s been a tremendous past several weeks for Cookie and company, but unfortunately, all fun things do come to an end.

Given where the show left off, it also seemed like the perfect time to take a break — Jamal went into rehab, and Andre emotionally said goodbye to Rhonda, knowing that he would try to get revenge for her death the only way that he knows how: By taking out the head of the snake. That is of course Lucious, and that plan is already in motion courtesy of what he’s done when it comes to freezing off Lucious’ assets and having the FBI breathing heavily down his back.

When the series does end up returning to Fox, it is going to be come late March, and at that time hopefully many of the stories will still be fresh in mind. That is one of the bigger risks that this show routinely takes, given that there is always a chance that nobody remembers precisely everything that happened and they lose interest and they move on to some other things that are out there and worth watching.

If there is one thing that we want to make clear now in the midst of some rumors elsewhere, it is that there was never meant to be an episode tonight and Fox is not trying to jerk you around in any way. The plan always is for there to be a significant hiatus at this time of the year, and the network is going to use this time between now and when the show comes back to launch “Star.” That is a risky endeavor for them given that it is such a new property — especially since it won’t have the great lead-in that it had here. Still, we give them credit for going with it and taking this risk.
