‘The Bachelor’ spoilers: Nick Viall on ‘unconventional’ season

Nick -

We’re still in the midst of spotlighting this season of “The Bachelor,” and that is something we’re going to be doing even more of as we get further and further along into the holidays. Look at it this way: It’s a chance for us to have a little bit more fun with the franchise while there’s not a whole lot else going on within the world of TV.

For now, though, let’s get to previewing the season in general terms. The show’s star Nick Viall recently took part in a conference call with reporters previewing the new season, and for the most part, he really didn’t say all that much about what is coming up in terms of his love life. He says he doesn’t have any regrets, so we should probably just take that as something — though almost everyone says that in some shape or form when they take on the leading role and film their season. If they don’t say that, it really sets the tone for a depressing season that may not generate all that much in terms of viewership.

What Nick was a little more open to discuss is how his season may play out a little bit differently than some others you’ve seen, based on what he had to say (per The Hollywood Reporter) recently:

“Overall, me being asked to be the Bachelor was viewed as an unconventional choice … Relative to my peers in the past, I’m probably a bit more unconventional, and that might be a theme you will continue to see with me as the Bachelor. I’m not afraid to play by my own rules and follow my heart and do what I think is best, regardless of majority opinion.”

There’s a little bit of irony in this choice when you think about it. ABC clearly hired Nick because he was a little bit rogue, and would do things differently than every other guy that they’ve had on the show over the years. Yet, at the same exact time we wonder if there are moments when he rebelled during the season and they started to get frustrated they didn’t pick someone more by-the-book. Either way, this should be a rather fun thing to watch when the show gets a little bit closer to premiering in early January.
